Preparing Your Pet for Surgery

Pre-Surgical Guidelines

To ensure your pet’s safety during surgery:

  • Drop off your pet between 7:30-8:30am on the surgery day
  • Withhold food after 8:00pm the night before surgery
  • Remove access to water after midnight
  • Contact us regarding any medications your pet takes regularly
  • Provide a reliable phone number where we can reach you during the procedure

During Your Pet’s Stay

We understand the concern you feel when your pet undergoes surgery. Our team welcomes your calls for updates on your pet’s condition. In case of any unexpected developments, your veterinarian will contact you immediately.

Most surgical patients return home the same day, with pickup available between 4:00-6:00pm. More complex procedures may require overnight monitoring.

Required Pre-Surgical Health Protection

For the safety of all patients in our care, we require:

  • Dogs and Cats: Current Distemper and Rabies vaccinations
  • Dogs Only: Current heartworm test
  • Pets not up-to-date on these requirements will receive necessary vaccinations or testing upon admission

Comprehensive Pre-Surgical Screening

Every surgical patient receives pre-surgical blood work to screen for:

  • Anemia
  • Abnormal protein levels
  • Kidney function issues
  • Liver disease

For senior pets, we recommend additional testing and intravenous fluid support. Our veterinarians will address any concerns identified during pre-surgical screening and may recommend further testing before proceeding.

Dedicated Pain Management

Every surgical patient receives individualized pain control both during and after their procedure, ensuring maximum comfort throughout recovery.
